On 16th May 2025, the management team of Emirates College of Health Sciences and Technology (ECOHSAT) and Emirates College of Nursing Sciences (ECONS) paid a courtesy visit to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and promote best practices in healthcare delivery.

The ECOHSAT/ECONS delegation was led by the Director Dr Shuaibu Suleiman in the company of Provost ECONS Mal. Muhammad .Shehu Minjibir, Deputy Director Academics Mal. Muhammad Suleiman Aliyu, Ag. Registrar Bldr Abdullahi Alhassan Sansan, SIWES Coordinator Mal. Ismail Oguniran and Dean Students Affairs Mal. Abdulkabir Suleiman. Dr Shuaibu Suleiman commenced by appreciating the Chief Medical Director AKTH for granting the visit amidst other important engagements, he expressed delight in the eight years partnership between ECOHSAT and AKTH which started in 2016 leading to successful clinical posting trainings of several students and academic competition experiences.

While further acknowledging the enormous contribution of the facility in training and providing healthcare services especially in the current economic downturn the Director solicited for a downward review of the recent increase in the bench fee to enable students receive affordable and uninterrupted academic training. The Chief Medical Director AKTH Prof Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe responded by acknowledging the long existing partnership and thank the Director for showing concern in bringing such issues to the table. The CMD went further to give analysis on how the economic realities has also affected the running of the facility which made it absolutely necessary for the review. The CMD assured that the management will deliberate on the submission of the ECOHSAT team and revert in due course.

ECOHSAT STUDENT CLINCHES PRESTIGIOUS UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH GRANT AWARD

We are proud to announce that Abubakar Abdullahi a 500L final year BMLS undergraduate student of Emirates College Of Health Sciences and Technology (ECOHSAT) affiliated with Kwara State University (KWASU) has been awarded a prestigious undergraduate research grant at the 14th edition undergraduate research day/grant award organized by center of research and development KWASU.

This competitive grant is aimed at fostering a culture of academic inquiry and innovation among undergraduate students in KWASU. Abubakar Abdullahi was among the 44 winners across the 11 faculties in the institution for his outstanding research proposal titled “Protective Effects of Aframomum melegueta (Alligator pepper) on Lead-Induced Immunotoxicity in Wistar Rats," the research aimed at evaluating the protective effect of Aframomum melegueta on lead-induced immunotoxicity in Wistar rats by analyzing full blood count, measuring cytokine levels (TNF-α and IL-10) comparing its efficacy with Dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) and determining its dose-dependent immune response".

The award recognizes not only the student’s academic excellence and research potential but also the commitment of ECOHSAT in partnership with KWASU to nurturing future scholars and change-makers. The grant will support Abubakar Abdullahi in conducting fieldwork, data analysis and dissemination of research findings contributing to both academic advancement and societal impact.

Speaking on the achievement, the Director ECOHSAT Dr Shuaibu Suleiman stated "This recognition is a testament to the quality of education and mentorship offered at ECOHSAT-KWASU affiliation. We are proud of Abubakar and confident that this achievement will inspire other students to pursue academic excellence and make impactful research."

Abubakar expressed gratitude for the support and guidance received from ECOHSAT and KWASU faculty mentors noting that the grant provides a valuable opportunity to explore real world challenges through rigorous academic research.
